Required Sets: Rise of the Valkyrie, Volcarren Wasteland
The land of Valcarren is filled with many dangerous and unpredictable environments, but no area is more deadly than the 200-mile stretch referred to as the Fields of Fire. Filled with hidden geysers of molten lava, cesspools of toxic gasses, and a constantly changing environment, it would take a brave warrior to cross the Searing Path into this land of death.
Master Game for 2 Players
Required Sets: Rise of the Valkyrie, Volcarren Wasteland
Goal: Gather a band of warriors to recover the Lava Stone of Volcarren, and destroy any
opposing force trying to recover it for their own needs.
Setup: Place a unit of Obsidian Guards on the spaces marked with an "X". Place glyphs power-side
up where shown. Keep 10 molten lava tiles near the battlefield to be used later.
Obsidian Guards cannot be chosen to be in players' armies. Army cards with "The Drop"
special power ignore that power and are placed just like other figures.
Each player drafts or brings pre-made 400-point armies. One player starts in the olive
starting zone; the other player starts in the purple starting zone.
Special Rules: At the beginning of the 2nd round, the player who wins initiative immediately places
a molten lava tile on any space within 5 spaces from the center molten lava tile.
This space cannot contain a glyph, a water tile, a molten lava tile, or a figure with
the "Lava Resistant" special power. Molten lava tiles are placed at the beginning
of every round thereafter, until all 10 lava tiles have been used. Any figure occupying
the space where a molten lava tile is placed is instantly destroyed and removed from
the battlefield.
Instead of taking a turn with an army card that includes a figure standing on the
glyph of Brandar (Lava Stone of Volcarren), you may take a turn with the Obsidian
Guards. If no figure occupies the glyph of Brandar the Obsidian Guards are neutral.
While they are neutral, you cannot attack them or receive a disengagement attack from
them.
Victory: If the other player has no figures left on the battlefield, or at the beginning of
any round after 10 you have a figure on the glyph of Brandar, you win.
After Utgar had gained the allegiance of the Obsidian Guards through the theft and control of the Lava Stone of Volcarren, a troop of Minions was sent across the Fields of Fire to the southern army carrying the stone. They never arrived.
The loss of the stone and with it the Obsidian Guards' allegiance, could compromise the eastern flank of Utgar's southern army, making it too weak to hold long against its enemies.
Master Game for 2 Players
Required Sets: Rise of the Valkyrie, Volcarren Wasteland
Goal: Gather a band of warriors to secure and protect the dry goods, and destroy any opposing
force trying to recover it for their own needs.
Setup: Keep 10 molten lava tiles near the battlefield to be used later. Place the glyph of
Brandar power-side up where shown. Remove the ruins from the Searing Pass battlefield.
They will not be used in this scenario. Army cards with "The Drop" special power ignore
that power and are placed just like other figures.
Each player drafts or brings pre-made 450-point armies. One player starts in the olive
starting zone; the other player starts in the purpe starting zone.
Special Rules: At the beginning of round 2, each player rolls three combat dice in initiative order.
For each skull rolled, place a molten lava tile adjacent to any lava field tile or
molten lava tile. This space cannot contain an glyph, a water tile, a molten lava
tile, a lava field tile, or a figure with the "Lava Resistance" special power. Molten
lava tiles are placed at the beginning of every round thereafter in initiative order,
until all 10 lava tiles have been used. Any figure occupying the space where a molten
lava tile is placed is instantly destroyed and removed from the battlefield.
Victory: If the other player has no figures left on the battlefield, or you have had control
of the dry goods (glyph of Brandar) at the end of a round for 4 straight rounds in
a row, you win.
A large store of dry goods has been discovered at the top of an unpredictable lava geyser, protected by mystical enchantments that keep the food safe from harm. Unfortunately the Ruins of Rennoc were not protected as well, and were lost for all time within the constant lava flows.
With the difficulty of supplying an army in the Fields of Fire, it is vitally important to control the Searing Pass. The discovery of such a large food source could win the war for the Volcarren wellsprings for any army daring enough to take it.
