The Growing Expænse

Required Sets: Rise of the Valkyrie

? B A D E G I K M V Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5 Level 6 Level 7 & Ruins

The purpose of this battlefield is to showcase the expanding game of Heroscape and to chronicle the game as it unfolds. The scenarios are playable but were not designed just for game play. The use of the æ ligature in the name is just to poke fun at the expEnse (money) of owning the expAnse (at least one or more of every expansion set). Plus it gives the name an archaic feel.

There is one Basic scenario and one Master scenario for each expansion. The purpose of each Basic scenario is to showcase every figure, while Master scenarios use every glyph. From one scenario to the next, the army size for each player increases as the battlefield expands. The scenario story expands as well. Information from the character bios and army cards of certain figures is incorporated.

Note: When positioning the figures for a Basic scenario, pay close attention to the figure's "ID". For squads, the collector numbers are correlated in a left-to-right fashion with the figures in the image on the basic side of the army card. For expansions that contain multiple packs, only 1 of each pack is required.

Basic Game for 2 Players

Required Sets: Rise of the Valkyrie

Goal: Destroy all of the opposing player's figures.

Setup: Place the two glyphs of Brandar power-side up where shown.

Using their collector numbers, place figures as shown. Player 1 (Good) controls figures numbered with White markers. Player 2 (Evil) controls figures numbered with Black markers.

Teleporting: The glyphs of Brandar represent simple teleport devices. When a figure moves onto a teleport it may take its next step to another teleport if the other teleport is not blocked (see "Passing and landing on other figures" in the rule book). A figure does not have to stop after moving onto a teleport.

Victory: When the other player has no figures left on the battlefield, you win.

Although Vydar originally pledged his allegiance to Utgar, he has decided to go into business for himself. Rather than choosing a side to fight on, he is more interested in the profit that can be made from the war, so he begins selling his agents as mercenaries.

Utgar is not happy with Vydar's decision to say the least, especially when Jandar outbids him for Vydar's Krav Maga Agents . Heated words were exchanged at the auction resulting in an all-out battle with every hero and squad beckoned so far.

Master Game for 2 Players, or 4 Players in 2 Teams

Required Sets: Rise of the Valkyrie

Goal: Destroy all of the opposing player's figures.

Setup: Place all glyphs power-side up where shown.

Players draft or bring a pre‑made army. If 2 players, each player chooses army cards adding up to 380 points or less. If 4 players (2 on a team) each player chooses army cards adding up to 230 points or less. Army card choices must be made only from the Required Sets listed above.

Player 1 (or Team 1) chooses army cards if led by Jandar or Ullar; or the Krav Maga Agents and places the chosen figures in the olive starting zone.

Player 2 (or Team 2) chooses army cards if led by Utgar or Einar; or Agent Carr and places the chosen figures in the purple starting zone.

For both starting zones, all players must fill the primary spaces (no "X") first and then the extended spaces (marked with an "X") if needed.

Teleporting: The glyphs of Brandar represent simple teleport devices. When a figure moves onto a teleport it may take its next step to another teleport if the figure is not huge and the other teleport is not blocked (see "Passing and landing on other figures" in the rule book). A figure does not have to stop after moving onto a teleport.

Moving from one teleport to another must be done using normal movement. For example, a figure with the Flying ability would have to land on the first teleport and step to the second one before resuming to fly.

Victory: When the other side has no figures left on the battlefield, you win. If the battle reaches the end of round 8, then the battle is over and the player or team with the most points on the battlefield wins.

Utgar is not happy with Vydar's decision to say the least, especially when Jandar outbid him for Vydar's Krav Maga Agents with their elusive Stealth Dodge ability. Heated words were exchanged at the auction resulting in a battle of good against evil.
